WESTMINSTER ABBEY

Westminster Abbey was spectacular.  Not only is it the burial place for all manner of notables over the centuries, but its architecture is, in my view, stunning.  I walked over to the Abbey during some free time and spent much of the afternoon admiring the place and taking photos.  Here are some of those.

I thought the nave ceiling was especially impressive.

I also liked this shot from the side of the nave.

Here are a couple of photos from different angles that emphasize the soaring columns, as well as the intricacies of the ceiling.

As mentioned, all sorts of historical figures are buried or at least commemorated in the Abbey, including a large number of notable literary figures (in a so-called poets corner).

Other portions of the Abbey employed a different design for the ceiling.

The stained glass was also impressive.

A couple of other detail photos.

I particularly liked how the above shot turned out.

Finally, a shot of the courtyard. I thought using the windows added an element and helped to create a frame for the shot.

John.
